Want to Volunteer
UHP welcomes volunteers to assist in taking care of their facility and rescues, regardless of prior experience. All volunteers must complete an onboarding that concentrates on barn/facility related tasks and does not involve direct contact with horses. After fulfilling the onboarding requirements, volunteers may be qualified to participate in shifts that require hands-on contact. Please note that UHP's mustangs are not ridden. Although working with horses is enjoyable, UHP's mustangs are "wild" and can be triggered, so proper training and gradual exposure are necessary to ensure safety for all volunteers and equine.
Onboarding
To start volunteering with us, new volunteers are required to attend a basic orientation session. During this session, our UHP volunteer coordinators will review our policies, procedures, and safety measures. After completing the orientation, volunteers are welcome to participate in barn chore shifts that take place from 8AM to 11AM or in the evening.
What Would I be Doing?
Volunteering for barn chores requires a commitment of around 2 hours per shift. During this time, you will be responsible for tasks such as mucking stalls, cleaning water buckets, and distributing hay. In some cases, you may also need to unload and stack hay or wood shavings. These daily chores are crucial and must be completed regardless of the weather. UHP depends on its volunteers, so consistent attendance is essential. If you cannot commit to regular shifts, volunteering may not be the best option for you.
How Do I Sign Up?
You do not need to possess any prior experience to volunteer with us. We have a diverse range of tasks that require assistance, and we welcome individuals from all backgrounds to join us.
